Exceptional English Treen Figural Nutcracker

Circa: 1720-1760
Size: 11" (oal)
This is the best and most exciting treen nutcracker that I have seen in some time. Quite large, this early screw-type boxwood (or fruitwood) nutcracker features an expressive man with well defined features and an open mouth. His hair is finely done—shaped almost like a leaf. The handle is a carved as a fish. The surface is first rate—a real treen lovers piece.

I catalogued the esteemed Longridge collection of treen which had several extraordinary early nutcrackers—though many from that collection were earlier (16th and 17thC), the scale (most nutcrackers are 6") and powerful features of this example would have made it a welcome addition.

***Note - the base used for photography is not a custom base and was only used as a support - it should be custom based (which I can assist with).
