Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898-1995)
Silver Gelatin Print
Martha's Vineyard, North Tisbury, MA 1968
Size: 7" x 9" (photo); 14" x 16" (frame)
Inscribed and signed by Eisenstaedt, "For many summers, I drove past this giant oak on Martha's Vineyard. But, I always said to myself "Next time!" Then one day I took heart, found a hole in the fence and photographed. - A few months later, half the tree was lost to a disease. This tree will never look as beautiful anymore." - Eisenstaedt.

This beautiful image captures an old growth oak tree on Martha's Vineyard within a composition of great movement (think roller coaster), with well balanced lights and darks.

Multiple stamps on mat board and back 'Photo by Alfred Eisenstaedt', 'The R. L'ourie Collection'.

Eisenstaedt was one of the most successful photographers of the twentieth century - most well known, V-J Day in Times Square, which is one of the most reproduced images ever.

The inscription is written on the board that the photo is mounted on. Framed with museum glass (anti-reflection picture framing glass with Conservation Grade UV Protection).

Condition: Very Good-Excellent. Two minor abrasions in grass to right of tree, inscription a bit faded (now under museum glass).
